COURSE INFORMATION

Mandarin is the official language in 25 countries such as Taiwan, Macao. Hong-Kong, Singapore, China etc as mother tongue. A total of about 1.3 billion people, 17.3% of global population speaks Chinese/Mandarin. It's a strategic fundamental skill for people who wish to communicate to the world in all age and to do business with Taiwan, as well as other Chinese/Mandarin speaking countries in the future.

All classes we offer are conducted through teacher-led hybrid classes, in-person and online classroom, with group of 12~15 students per class.

Our program offering nine levels of classes from beginner to advanced business Mandarin. Winter 2021 is offering both Beginner I and Beginner II courses. At Spring 2022, Novice I and II courses will be added into our program.

The beginner and novice classes will teach beginner level students how to speak, listen, read and write Mandarin with a simple level of fluency. The Beginner class is for anyone who has not taken Mandarin before or would like to review the basics. This course provides essential words and concepts for forming sentences. Builds a firm foundation of useful vocabulary, including numbers, days of the week, expressing time, colors, foods, and more.

Our experienced instructors will provide students with the most commonly used Chinese Characters, phrases and grammar usage. Students will not only develop their ability to speak, read, write within the Mandarin language, but they will have an opportunity to learn beyond the text, enriching their understanding of Chinese culture and customs. Our goal in this program is to be able to equip our students with the necessary knowledge needed for them to communicate with native speakers with confidence and relative ease.

Textbook is included with paid registration and will be provided to students at the first class meeting.

This course is for students with little or no Mandarin language experience. Within this beginners course, students will be introduced to Mandarin traditional characters, word usage, sentence patterns and grammar.

  • Target learners: For students age 18+

  • No experience of the Chinese Mandarin language

  • Off-Site culture class: At least one off-site culture experience class will be arranged

This course is for students with little Mandarin language experience or successfully completed SVTCML Beginner I course. Within this beginners course, students will be introduced to Mandarin characters, word usage, sentence patterns and grammar.

  • Target learners: For students age 18+

  • At least of 50+ hours of learning the Chinese Mandarin language and familiar with HanYu PinYin pronunciation system

  • Limited seats of maximum 15 students only at Fall 2022 program

  • Fall 2022 Beginner II class starts at TBD

  • In-Class meets Friday evenings 7:00 ~ 9:00 pm

This course is for students with good knowledge of HanYu PinYin pronunciation system and basic understanding of traditional Chinese characters, radical, stroke order experience. Within this Novice I course, students will be continue the learning journey from Beginner courses. More Chinese culture will also introduced.

  • Target learners: For students age 18+

  • At least of 80+ hours of learning the Chinese Mandarin language with good knowledge of HanYu PinYin pronunciation system

  • Limited seats of maximum 15 students at Spring 2022 Novice I class

  • Spring 2022 program registration dates: January 15, 2022 to March 2, 2022

  • Spring 2022 Novice I class starts at March 4, 2022

  • Nine In-Person meets Friday evenings 7:00 ~ 9:00 p.m.: 3/4, 3/11, 3/18, 3/25, 4/1, 4/8, 4/15, 4/29, 5/6

  • Nine Online-Class meets: One hour every week (Saturdays 7:00 ~ 8:00 p.m.)

  • Off-Site culture class: At least one off-site culture experience class will be arranged
